about armc

Beyoncé’s Grammy-nominated album The Lion King: The Gift. Stormzy’s Brit Award-winning Heavy is the Head. Africa Express’s EGOLI. These are just three recent global releases that place creative collaboration with artists from Africa at their heart.

Add in dedicated African-music club nights in all major European cities, growing streaming numbers for a head-spinning diversity of African artists, and the boundary-breaking ability of gqom, amapiano, and the new wave of Afrobeats and you get a glimpse into the power of African music across the globe.

Firmly located in the independent arm of the music industry, ARMC is a global meeting point for those committed to taking African music to the world.

PROGRAMME

The theme of the ARMC 2021 gathering is “Building Bridges”.

We are working hard behind the scenes to secure an inspiring line-up of speakers from across the world. Stay tuned for the first round of speakers, to be announced from 11th January 2021.

OUR VENUE

Johannesburg’s Civic Theatre was built by the then city council in 1962, creating a high-profile landmark on the top of the Braamfontein hill. The building was given a magnificent face-lift in the late ’80s, turning it into one of the most technically proficient theatres in the southern hemisphere.

In the past decade, The Mandela at Joburg Theatre has hosted many hit shows, including William Kentridge’s acclaimed interpretation of Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE, the West End and Broadway musicals WEST SIDE STORY, CHICAGO, THE COLOR PURPLE and SPAMALOT and top-of-the-line global touring shows, such as LE GRAND CIRQUE, LORD OF THE DANCE and BRAZOUKA.
